G.A. RITTENHOUSE
Spares that never got used. Units pulled in an upgrade. A whole substation from a plant that closed. If it’s sitting in your yard, it’s worth more sold than stored — and we’ll take it away.
We own the furnace. A transformer that can work again gets resold; one that can’t gets melted in our Houston smelter. That’s why every unit has a price floor with us — and why we buy units other buyers turn down.
Units bought as backups that have sat on a pad for years. New or nearly new stock is worth the most.
Transformers pulled when a facility added load, changed voltage or replaced older equipment.
Entire substations from facilities that shut down — transformers, breakers, switchgear and all.
Units a utility or facility has written off as unserviceable. We buy them whether they can be returned to service or not.

A transformer sitting in a yard isn’t holding its value. Weather works on the tank, gaskets and bushings, test results go stale, and the paperwork that proves its history gets harder to find.
Selling it while it’s complete and its records are current gets you the strongest offer.
Bushings, radiators, gauges and tap changer all still on it.
Oil lab reports and electrical test results, even older ones, move the offer.
Was it operating when removed? Never energized? That matters.
Rating, voltages, impedance and serial in one picture saves days.

We buy single transformers and entire lots — including the breakers, switchgear, regulators and reactors that came out with them. One removal, one offer.
Units that can work again are resold. Units that can’t are melted in our own furnace, which is why nothing in the lot is a write-off.
Yes. New and new-old-stock units are the most valuable surplus we see, especially with original documentation.
It usually means the owner has decided not to return the unit to service. That doesn’t make it worthless — we buy unserviceable units for resale where possible and for their metal where not.
Yes. Transformers, breakers, switchgear and associated gear in one removal and one offer. See also our plant decommissioning work.
There’s no cutoff. Older units may sell as scrap rather than for reuse, but they always have value to us because we melt what we can’t resell.
Yes. We’re based in Houston and buy across the Gulf Coast and nationwide.
