G.A. RITTENHOUSE
Turn scrap transformers into revenue. We buy them whole, in any condition, and recover the copper, aluminum and steel in our own furnace — so you’re paid on the metal, not discounted for the work of getting it out.
We own the furnace. A transformer that can work again gets resold; one that can’t gets melted in our Houston smelter. That’s why every unit has a price floor with us — and why we buy units other buyers turn down.
Copper or aluminum windings sit inside a steel tank and core. Most scrap yards price a whole transformer as mixed scrap because getting the good metal out is slow, heavy work.
Oil-filled units have to be drained and the fluid handled properly before anything is cut. Many buyers simply won’t take them.
We drain, dismantle and sort the copper, aluminum and steel ourselves, then melt it. That work is our business, so it isn’t deducted from your price.

A transformer’s scrap value comes down to three things: how much it weighs, whether the windings are copper or aluminum, and how much of the core and tank steel comes with it.
Tell us the rating and, if you know it, the winding material. Not sure? A photo of the nameplate is usually enough for us to work it out.
Pad-mount and pole-mount units, single units or a yard full.
Large oil-filled units that are too old, too damaged or too specialized to resell.
Cast-resin and ventilated dry types from plants and commercial buildings.
Breakers, switchgear, regulators and reactors that come out alongside the transformers.

Most scrap transformers change hands two or three times before they reach a smelter, and each hand takes a cut. We are the smelter.
It depends on weight, winding material and condition, and it moves with metal markets, so we price each one rather than quote a flat per-pound rate. Send the nameplate and a few photos and you’ll have a written offer within two business days.
Yes. Tell us whether the unit is oil-filled and what you know about its PCB status. PCB content affects both what a unit is worth and how it can legally be handled, so it’s better to know early.
Often you won’t know until someone looks. We check every unit for resale value first and only price it as scrap if it can’t work again — see what decides a transformer’s value.
No. We buy transformers whole and handle the draining and dismantling ourselves.
Yes. We handle rigging, removal and freight, anywhere on the Gulf Coast and nationwide.
Only your name and email are required. If all you have is a photo of the nameplate, send that — we’ll read it and come back to you with a written offer within two business days.
